Transient Hyperintensity On Diffusion-Weighted MRI in Transient Global Amnesia

چکیده
Objects: Different theories were suggested on the etiopathogenesis of transient global amnesia. Methods: We demonstrate a patient with transient global amnesia, in whom, a transient hyperintense signal change on left hippocampus was detected in diffusionand T2weighted magnetic resonance images. Conclusion: The absence of vascular risk factors or atherosclerotic changes in neuroimaging, in addition to transient lesion and antecedent migraine attack suggest the phenomenon of “spreading depression” secondary to migraine as underlying etiopathogenetic mechanism of transient global amnesia in this patient.

Lack of evidence of acute ischemic tissue change in transient global amnesia on single-shot echo-planar diffusion-weighted MRI.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE There is uncertainty concerning the etiology of transient global amnesia (TGA). Previous CT and MRI studies have indicated that permanent structural abnormality is rare in TGA. Diffusion-weighted (DW) MRI is very sensitive to early ischemic parenchymal changes and has recently demonstrated embolic infarction in the posterior cerebral artery territory in 2 TGA patients. We...

The pathophysiology of transient global amnesia (TGA) is still speculative. Recently, diffusion-weighted image (DWI) of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) documented tiny lesions in the hippocampus of patients with TGA in the acute stage. Most studies reported unilateral lesions on MRI. We present one patient of TGA with high signal-intensity lesions in bilateral hippocampus on DWI at the acute s...

Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) is a dynamic condition. An undefined event causes anterograde amnesia (sometimes with retrograde amnesia) that lasts in a day and preserves of self-identity and of consciousness. Epilepsy, migraine and ischemic events are the possible causes for different hypothesis but still unproven. Sixty three years old woman admitted to emergency department because of amnesia...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Lesions in diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI-L) have been commonly described in transient global amnesia (TGA). We investigated a possible relationship between brain ischemia and TGA. METHODS Twenty-eight patients underwent transcranial and carotid Doppler ultrasonography (including microembolus detection) and MRI within 24 hours of TGA onset (including DWI, perfusion-wei...
